Quarter-Life Wants

Also known as: The 25th birthday wish list

You know what is the most useful thing that people make for Christmas and birthdays (and sometimes, even Valentine’s Day)? Wish lists. While I always appreciate surprises and people who know me so well that they know what to give me without having to rely on any wish list, I find that it’s always fun (and helpful) to make a wish list. Because at some point, people do consult this, and sometimes I end up getting them on my own.

Jumping off from the Law of Attraction post and from what I did last Valetine’s Day and the fact that my brother is waiting for me to post this…I present the 25th birthday wish list. :)

Oh, and it’s exactly 10 days until I turn 25. :)

Something I ask prayers/thoughts for:

Meaning, I don’t think anyone can give this to me except for the issuing people, so, prayers and thoughts will be appreciated. :)

  • Schengen Visa for WYD 2011 – self-explanatory. I’ll worry about the airfare later, need the visa first. Prayers, please? :)

Gadgets and stuff:

From most expensive to least.

  • Panasonic Lumix LX5 – It’s time for Ashley, my Canon IXUS 80IS, to retire, I think. Plus, I kinda need this for my trip on August. :) Don’t you think the white one is pretty?

    Panasonic Lumix LX5
    Pretty in white.
  • iPod Touch 4G – Just like Ashley, I think it’s also about time for Macy, my iPod Touch 2g (!!!) to retire, too. She’s been cranky lately. :(

    iPod Touch 4G
I really want this for the camera feature.
  • m-Edge e-luminator Kindle book lightStill need a decent book light for my Kindle that fits its case. I don’t think this one is available here, though. :(

    Let there be light!
  • Dry seal for label for my books – Like what I posted last Christmas, I’ve been wishing this for more than two years. My 25th birthday is my personal deadline — if no one gets this for me, I will get it for myself. So, hint hint. A simple “Tina” or “Tinamats” on the seal would do, and some stars on the design would be nice. Details on Blooey’s blog, who made me want the same thing because of that post. :P

Books:

Because they deserve a separate list. I’m welcome to recommendations really, books that you think I may like (although I can’t guarantee I will be able to read it anytime soon of course), but if you fear that freedom of getting me anything, here are some ideas:

  • Rival by Sara Bennett Wealer
  • The Lover’s Dictionary by David Levithan
  • Please Ignore Vera Dietz by A.S. King
  • Angelica’s Daughters by Various authors (local book, published by Anvil)
  • The Extraordinary Secrets of April, May and June by Robin Benway
  • UK Edition of Trash by Andy Mulligan
  • Plain Kate by Erin Bow
  • I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith
  • When You Reach Meby Rebecca Stead
  • False Princess by Ellis O’Neal
  • Any book by Jaclyn Moriarty, Julie James and Sarah Addison Allen

I accept both physical books and ebooks — remember Kindle Ebook Gifting is possible now. :) Ask me what email address I use there if you’ll go that way ((Because my Amazon account email is different from my blog email. SO ASK!)). :)

Others:

Miscellaneous ideas. :)

  • Gift Certificates – Fully Booked, Powerbooks, National Bookstore, Forever 21, Azta salon, Bayo, Bench, Cache Cache (if they have it, that is.) Books, clothes, or vanity (especially hair vanity!) — I want them, I need them. :P
  • Rosary bracelet – One of my constant accessories is my rosary bracelet, which is starting to get a little too old now. :( It doesn’t have to be shiny — it can be the wood version, I don’t really care, as long as it’s the rosary.

    Rosary bracelet
This makes me feel safer when I'm out or I'm sick.
  • Accessories – bracelets, long necklaces – A girl can never have too many accessories. Plus points if it has a star or a sunflower. :)
  • New watch – my old watch is not working anymore, plus the one I borrow from my mom makes my skin break out. A watch that I can wear on casual days and formal events would be nice.
  • Little Miss Writer Shirt – Well, isn’t it obvious? I’m a medium. :)

So cute. So me, right? :P
  • Anything with sunflowers or stars. A real sunflower would be nice. I don’t think I can get a real star (hello, Neil Gaiman’s Stardust), but anything with stars is enough to make me squee. :)

And honestly? Any thoughtful gift will do. A phone call, an e-card, an actual card, an email, lunch out or dinner or even just coffee somewhere, or a (surprise) visit at where I work — I will be perfectly happy with that.  In fact, I may be happier with just seeing my friends on that day or before or after my birthday (and I may even treat you then, because…well, I do that a lot). :) I found that as I grow older, my wish list grows smaller and smaller. It’s probably because I can afford most of the things I want already, but I also think it’s because I’ve learned that the important things are not really the material things but time. Sure, it’s nice to get gifts, but I think it’s nicer to spend time with people you love and care for, right?

So let’s make the last days of my 24th year count. :) Hey Twenty Five, I’m almost there.

  1. After having gifted my husband with the new Kindle (and m-Edge case, per your advice — thanks!), now he wants not only the m-Edge Kindle light, but the leather case as well. Fortunately one of his aunts from Montana is coming home this June. Hope he’ll be able to wait it until then. :)

By the way, thanks for your help and tips, especially the one about Johnny Air shipping. :) And advance Happy Birthday! God bless you always. :)

  2. Tina, i gave a friend a dry seal for his birthday last year. I think I had it made in Recto in one of those alleys. It costs about.. 250? I think.
