Centennial

Also known as: Celebrating two centennial celebrations

Today I join two communities in celebrating 100 years of existence. :)

DLSU 100

Today De La Salle University celebrates its 100 year presence in the Philippines. DLSU has always been my dream college in high school. Despite the distance, the school system and all the failed grades I got (just 3, anyway) there, I know I spent four of my best years in the green halls of Taft. :) I’m proud to be a Lasallian. Too bad I wo’t be able to go to the celebration tonight because of work, and I didn’t get to wear green. I am wearing a green bracelet though — the sentiment counts? :)

There were times when I wondered if I should have chosen another path back in college, like a different school (since I did pass the top 3 universities), but I know I wouldn’t be who I am now if it wasn’t for my Lasallian education. And I’m happy with who I am now. :) Like what that song said, “If I were to live my whole life again, I’d still want to be a Lasallista pa din.” Green and proud!

Animo La Salle! Live Jesus in our hearts, forever. :)

And then, what do you know, the company I’m working for is also celebrating its centennial year today!

IBM 100

If I had a dream school, I eventually had a dream company. I didn’t know I wanted to be an IBMer before I realized how much I didn’t like my first job. So when the opportunity to work for the Big Blue presented itself, I grabbed it with both hands and didn’t let go. It’s been a good (almost!) four years here, and I have no regrets taking that leap. I’m very glad to be in a company that cares for its employees as much as it cares for its clients and the work. I think people who have been following my blog for a long time or have known me for a while know how thankful I am for being an IBMer. :)

Blue and proud here, too. :)

I find it funny that I was asked to wear both blue and green today ((For the uninformed: DLSU’s rival school in the Philippines is Ateneo de Manila University, whose school color is blue.)) I guess I’m a mixed blood? Haha. But I’m glad to be a part of the celebrations happening around me today. :) I’m also very thankful that God led me to and through this path, leading me where I am now. It’s not perfect, it was never easy, but I think it’s beautiful. And the journey is far from over, too.

I know I will not be around for the 200 year celebration, but I’m glad I’m here, now. :) Happy 100 years, DLSU and IBM!

  1. Ever like wearing yellow? As in, yellow for tigers. Hehe. Back in college, DLSU was UST’s fiercest competition in men’s basketball in the UAAP. Ah well. Those were the days. :)
