Single on Heart's Day

I’m a bit too busy to actually write something for Valentine’s Day right now so I’ll reserve that this weekend. For now, I’ll share with you an article I co-wrote with a couple of friends at work, so here! :D Enjoy reading!

Single on Heart’s Day?

It’s that time of the year again. Love songs play on the radio, flower and chocolate sales are at an all time high, and red is the color of the season.

Yes, friends, it’s time for Valentine’s Day.

Every year, more and more singles dread the month of February, especially when it comes to the middle of the month. Even if the 14th means payday, it also means that everyone who’s got someone is out on a date with their significant others, while singles are at a loss to look for what to do on that night.

It’s time to change that notion. You can have fun on Valentine’s Day, even if you have no significant other. Here are some suggestions for you to enjoy the 14th of February and not be sad or bitter (or both), because yes, it is possible to enjoy the day even without a date.

Tina, Tina, Tina

I think I just survived my Friday. So yay. This deserves for a well-deserved rest. And a hair cut for tomorrow!

Anyway, it’s been a long day and I’m just glad I survived all. It’s going to be a long weekend too, and I’m passing up on a trip to do some writing and probably some work and just spend time at home because the next few weekends are going to be busy. I wish some tm-t88iv could help relieve the busy-ness…but it won’t. Oh well.

But before we go to the weekend…here’s a little something to boost my self-esteem. :P This has been going around Facebook and Tumblr, but I thought I’d post this here just because. So here are the instructions:

Go to urbandictionary.com, type in your first name, copy and paste this as a title, and put the first entry for your name as a text post.

I searched mine and the first answer was: “Slang for Crystal Meth.” Uh, okay. :| But then I found the entry that everyone else was copying for themselves, and here is mine:

Tina

The most beautiful girl you will ever lay eyes on. She has long pretty hair and big brown eyes. She will reel you in at hello, she is amazing in every way.

John: Oh gosh Bobby, I met Tina yesterday
Bobby: JOHN NOOO I CALLED DIBS REMEMBER
John: I’m sorry but no dibs on Tina, shes too perfect to be shottied by only one guy.

LOL. Oh my gosh, this just totally made my day. :)

Care to share what Urban Dictionary has to say about your name? :) Post them at the comments section!

Delete Cookies?

Taking a break on  Monday morning evening to share this cute image that made me laugh out loud today:

Delete Cookies?

Isn’t Cookie Monster just adorable? Okay, he isn’t that cute in this image, but that look of bewilderment is so cute. :P I saw a Cookie Monster stuffed toy in Toy Town last Christmas and I would have bought it for myself…if it wasn’t Php 1,500. :( Boo. He’s at the same level of Grimace with my fangirl-ing. So if you want to buy me a birthday gift (March 17 *wink*), that cookie monster doll would be a good one. :P

I wonder why all these kid character fangirl-ing came now that I’m on quarter-life. Regressing much? It’s good to like kid stuff every now and then. :P

Okay, back to work now. :)

Girl Talk Thursday: Pet Peeves

Since I couldn’t post Booking Through Thursday here anymore because I have One More Page, so I found another thing to post here. :D Hello, Girl Talk Thursday!

This week’s question is all about pet peeves. Oh boy, this should be good.

I know I’m not the nicest person around, but I do try to be patient when people do things that bug me or if there’s something that happened that I just didn’t like…but sometimes, my patience just won’t cut it. Especially if it’s any of the following:

  • People who stop right before stepping on the escalator to talk if they really want to go up/down. Or even if it’s just a single person who happen to stop before stepping on an escalator to text, or think or decide if they really want to ride it. Ugh, I always get a huge desire to push/kick people who do that. Seriously, please decide before you step on the escalator landing if you are really going through with it, especially if there are people behind you. You’re going to make everyone behind you stop if you stop, so don’t stop, especially if people are in a hurry.
  • People who hiss at me to get my attention. You know, the “psst!” It’s a Filipino trait, and it’s sad and it just…pisses me off when people do that. Sorry. I do that in writing, but in person…no way. Plus how hard is it to say “hi” or call the other person’s name?
  • People who have no concept of time. I don’t mind people being late, because I am late a lot of times too, but I hate it when people do not follow appointments. At this time and age, a simple text message can be sent immediately to inform the other party that they will be late — that is very much appreciated. Oh, and if I say I need to be at this place at this time, well, I really need to be there at that time. Seriously.
  • People who text this way: kmuzta p0h!!! Pleaaaase. Seriously, is it so hard to write the proper way? :/ I’m starting to forgive using “q” as a replacement for “ko”, but that’s really the farthest I’m going with here. No more. StIcKy CaPs get to me a lot too, so please. Just don’t.
  • Whenever I get the edges of my pants wet with rainwater. Or any kind of water, even if it’s from pond pumps. I hate the feeling of having wet pants legs, especially when I can feel it with my feet. Ugh.

Sorry, just saying what I think. But it’s really a matter of perspective. Like I said, I’m pretty patient and I hardly ever snap. But then again, I just said hardly. No offense to anyone, of course.

What about you? What are your pet peeves?

Distance Education?

One of my goals last year is to prepare for graduate school. Obviously I didn’t get to do it because other things in life took over, but I still dream of being able to go back to school sometime soon.

I’m not sure if I will be able to do it again this year because of finances and getting my life in order, but there’s another option that I haven’t tried exploring yet: distance education.

I know a couple of people who enrolled in distance education courses. Being an instructional systems technology major, I know that distance education is very possible, and it allows me to stay where I am while learning something at my own pace. I’ve done some research about going to an online university and it seems pretty feasible — if only I was sure I’d be able to manage my time well. ;)

One online university I’ve seen is Western Governors University, which seems like a pretty good online school. It’s non-profit, more affordable than other online universities, and it’s a fully accredited online education institution.

I hear they have a pretty good online nursing degree, and they have online MBA degrees too, which is mighty interesting…

But then, actually going to school is an entirely different thing, right?

So let’s see. It’s nice to have options for these kinds of things, and I just hope I’ll be able to get enough courage and money and time to get that MBA degree before I turn 25. :)

Hello Ho Ho Ho

Okay, I really meant to blog this week. And lats week.

Thing is, even with that intention, there were a lot of other things that caught up to me the past two weeks that made me not blog. Ugh. I have so much writing backlog that it’s driving me nuts.

But because it’s almost Christmas and it’s the last work day of the week today, I won’t go nuts.

Forgive me if I haven’t been blogging. I owe you guys a lot – two more lessons from the flood, reviews, year-end surveys, stories and yes, the Coron post.  Oh and there’s the post-NaNoWriMo post that’s long overdue. Work’s just been crazy and with that, workouts (I have to post about that, too!), and Christmas preparations, everything just goes crazy, you know?

It’s a good thing I don’t go to school, or else I don’t think I’ll be blogging now (although I think everyone who is in school is on vacation now).

Which reminds me, I need to renew my domains and pay stuff. Ahhh crazy — not enough to go to drug rehab, but still, too many!

But it’s okay. Because it’s Christmas in two days. I promise to post a Christmas story by tomorrow. But now I have to work. So close, so close!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Day 23What a long, long, long, long, longggg day. And it’s almost over, and I’m still at work, and…what a long, long, long day this has been.

All I want to do now is this:

funny-pictures-cat-dozes

My brain is totally fried from all the work today, and…well, I’m just tired. Too tired to even think of a proper blog entry. See.

This kind of reminds me of when I had to do so much work for school that my brain is absolutely fried. The only difference is…I’m in school. And I get paid for this.  Heh.

*yawn*

Anyway, I’m going to…zzzz…..

23/30.

Happy Friday!

Day 18It’s another long weekend! Hope you guys have a great time this weekend. I wish I could’ve hit the beach but my weekend is packed anyway — book fair (post tomorrow!), my dad’s arrival, my goddaughter’s birthday…wohoo! Bring it on!

Sorry for the short entry, but for now I will leave you with something  that’s made me giggle everytime I’ve seen it this week. Hope you don’t get to be like this kitteh. :)

Entertain meh!

Happy weekend everyone!

09-09-09

Day 9I really planned to do something special today, just because it’s 09/09/09…but I can’t find anything special in my day at all. Except maybe taking another route on the way to work. Or eating at Jollibee again after…what, a month and a half? Or…hiding another CD of Switchfoot’s Mess of Me (more on this tomorrow :D).

I don’t know…I guess my lack of spontaneity makes me suck at things like this. Or, maybe it’s really just the rain that makes me too lazy to think of things to do.

These days are what digital cameras are made for, you know to document the days. But if there’s nothing special happening on that day…what do you do?

Ho-hum. This Tina, whattabore.

Then again last year’s 08-08-08 entry was kind of a bore, too. But at least I had pictures…except I didn’t have any pictures of me.

I swear, 10-10-10 will be different.

But anyway. In the spirit of it being 09-09-09, here are 9 things that…well…just 9 things:

  1. Noynoy to run for president in 2010. This is something I kind of expected already (even if something inside of me is wishing he’d say no…just so it would be more interesting, I guess). I’ll reserve whatever opinions I have for another post. I’m not always apathetic, you know. Which reminds me, I still plan to write more about my being a registered voter.
  2. I Has A Hotdog and friends declared this day as “A Day Without Cats“. I Can Has Cheezburger is not hearing of it though. ;) I’m more of a cat  person, really, but I’d choose another path today and go for…foxes. Sorry, this image is just too hilarious not to share:

    Firefox Rejects your Search Request

  3. The salad I’m supposed to have for dinner is wilting, I think. I’ve switched to eating salads for dinner because I tend to eat a lot at dinner, and my nutritionist advised me to focus on veggies and fruits for my last meal of the day. I’ve done good so far…I think. I’ll know my results tomorrow. Hopefully, I’ll break the 10-lbs weight loss goal by tomorrow. Wish me luck. :)I should eat this salad now, I think.
  4. This is probably the funniest discovery for the day: The Drama Button. We’ve been playing this randomly for the day — what a way to spice up conversations. :P
  5. Stop and ListenBethany Dillon, one of my favorite female singers, released a new album today! It’s been a while since her Waking Up album, and I can’t wait to hear what she has for this one. Another album I’m looking forward to being released this month is Paramore‘s Brand New Eyes.  I’m in dire need of new music. It’s been a while since I loaded some new songs in my iPod. What albums are you waiting for to be released now? Any recommendations? :)
  6. Speaking of songs…here’s a song suggestion from my friend Cors. Talk about complimenting my waiting posts. Hah.

Lyrics here. But, I will choose to not feel sorry for myself, even if I can relate to the song. In God’s perfect time. Amen.

  7. Speaking of hope, and something like that…here’s a happy little image from icanread. :) It is a happy thought, don’t you think?

    Happy Thought :)
    Happy Thought :)
  8. I just remembered, there’s something else to look forward to during September: Manila International Book Fair! Wohoo! Bookworm’s dreams! Strangely enough, I don’t really have any to-buy  books. I’m just planning to go to MIBF this year to scout stuff and see if I can get good deals on some books that I don’t really have to have. Did that make sense? Anyway, while we’re at it…any book recommendations? :) Post away!
  9. Wow, we’re at the ninth item. I didn’t know it was that hard to think of 9 things. :P Since it’s been raining so much lately, here’s a little quote for everyone — I heard it from Lifeteen.com‘s Sunday Sunday Sunday podcast (which you should subscribe to, because it’s awesome :D):

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass…it’s learning how to dance in the rain.

    True. :)

And…that’s nine things. :) There’s only two hours of 09/09/09 left in the Philippines, but I know other parts of the world are just starting their 09/09/09. Wherever you are, I hope you had an interesting one. :)

9/30.

12:34:56 07/08/09

Okay, so I don’t really know if this will post at exactly 56 seconds past 12:34 (because WordPress’ scheduled posts doesn’t have a seconds feature), but I’m hoping by the time anyone reads this, it’s 12:34:56 on 07/08/09. Or past it. But whatever.

I know, I’m a geek. When I read Dane’s tweet about it, I knew I just have to blog about it, and blog on the exact time.

Say it again: geek. It’s like when I posted about Happy Numbers a couple of years back.

Anyway, I’m on day shift today because of an LJ girls dinner tonight, and I’ll be spending the night at the condo so I wouldn’t be able to go to the gym tomorrow morning. I honestly don’t feel like it either — my legs hurt! And tomorrow is supposed to be cycling day, and I have a feeling I wouldn’t be able to walk by Friday if I force myself to do it tomorrow! So Friday. Toni, sorry! At least you’ll be sleeping in tomorrow? Haha. I swear, going to the gym with a friend is better than any weight loss product. :)

I also really need to go to the dentist downstairs in a while for cleaning as well as check up because I have a bad feeling that I have a cavity and one of my molars have been hurting since the other day. Hm. I hope I can finish early with the dentist today…if not, I’ll be going tomorrow, I guess.

Oh, and if you want to see something geeky and funny? Well, here’s Lola Techie. She’s the grandmother in Bayantel’s new commercial for their DSL, the one who knows her Facebook. :P  You can even follow her on Twitter. :P This new commercial of her is simply hilarious:

Have a great Wednesday everyone. Off to the dentist!
