On Artists and Outrageous Concert Prices

Ack, my lips are so itchy. I’m praying these are just windburned lips and not some kind of lip allergy from using a more than six months old lip shine. Eep. I’ve been dousing it with petroleum jelly for the entire day and it gets itchier after I eat since it becomes dry, and it’s so annoying. :/

I accomplished some things for one of my goals for 2008 for this month, which I will post about in an update soon. It’s got me a couple of thousand bucks poorer though, but I’d like to believe that’s an investment. Besides, I badly need them. :D Heh. In the next week I’d be accomplishing some other goals too, which means more late time going home from work because of lots of meetings. I’m kind of nervous about tomorrow’s meeting, though, since it’s my first time to hea one, and I’m not yet entirely sure if I understood everything. I’m not regretting being placed in this position though; I’m just nervous. Pray for me, please? :) After that, I shall prepare for my first ever presentation during our general assembly on Friday. Eep. :o Which reminds me, I planned to work on one document I should be emailing by tomorrow today, but then…there’s such a thing as work-life balance, so let’s make use of that. I’d have time tomorrow. :)

Speaking of work-life balance, I just heard from some friends that Maroon 5 concert tickets for their March 5 show in Araneta Coliseum are already available via TicketNet…and check out these prices:

Patron VIP (101, 103, 1st 20 rows) (Reserved Seating) – PhP 10500
Patron (Reserved Seating) – PhP 7875
Lower Box (Reserved Seating) – PhP 5250
Upper Box A (Reserved Seating) – PhP 3938
Upper Box B (Free Seating) – PhP 2625
Gen. Admission (Free Seating) – PhP 1575

Look. At. Those. Prices. More than a thousand bucks for General Admission?! My gosh. What can you see from GenAd anyway? And ten thousand for one ticket? What if you’re on the 20th row already, is that still worth P10,500? OUTRAGEOUS. That’s even more expensive than assisted living software (I think)!

Then again…I remember Josh Groban front seat tickets are P25,000 each…so this looks small compared to that. BUT STILL! The most expensive ticket I ever bought was for the Jars of Clay concert three years ago…and that’s really close. Switchfoot’s highest priced ticket is even cheaper than Maroon 5’s General Admission. :-o

Yes, they are big artists…but the tickets are just…whoa. I was planning to watch, but my wallet is seriously disagreeing with me; and if I do decide to watch, I could say goodbye to Sydney.

And now this makes me wonder who else will be going here this year. I haven’t heard any news from our bosing during the Switchfoot concert, since I guess she’s busy…so no news yet of who will be coming here that we’ll be able to help organize. Switchfoot is coming to the Pacific, but not passing by Philippines so I am totally envious of Gharri who will be in Malaysia at the same time they are. :P Here’s my current artist “wishlist” though:

 • Brooke Fraser (I heard she visited the Philippines early last year, but not to perform but as a part of some movement…I’m not sure if it’s World Vision).
 • Dave Barnes (Dream on, Tina :D).
 • Matt Wertz (Bring him with Dave!)
 • Jars of Clay (I still dream of being able to hug and have a picture with Dan Haseltine).
 • Switchfoot (Once is definitely not enough).
 • Anberlin
 • Mae
 • Bethany Dillon (Her show does not have to be in a big venue…a small venue would definitely be better :D)
 • Lifehouse
 • Relient K (Appetite for Construction tour here too? Please? :D)
 • Nichole Nordeman (She could do a show with Bethany? Hee.)
 • TobyMac

Ah. I could list so much more…but I’ll stop here. :D Now I have to finish watchig this Ugly Betty episode and finish the book I’ve been meaning to finish since last yesterday. Have a great week everyone. :)

Red Meets Blue (Matt Wertz)

I know I’m so late with this, but I only really got to listen to this song and to this artist now. Some friends already mentioned his songs on old Livejournal posts, but I think that was back when I was still on dial-up, so listening to MySpace music is not really that fun. Today I found some of his songs in a random Multiply and decided to try them. And I just have to say: I’m in love with Matt Wertz. ♥ Matt Wertz reminds me a bit of Tyrone Wells, Ryan Cabrera and Rockwell Ryan. His songs are mostly acoustic with a pop feel and his lyrics are very honest, speaking of love, love lost, breaking up and of a love that is greater than us. He makes me want to learn how to play the guitar. Hee. I’m still digesting his songs, but I’m loving it so far. Here’s the first song I got, which I really, really love at first listen (You keep distracting me with your beauty…what a first line!). :D Listen to it and fall in love too. ;)

Red Meets Blue
Matt Wertz

You keep distracting me with that beauty
Leaving me wanting more
Reminding me of my duty
To lock these eyes to yours

I’ve never known a love so true
I want to see all of you
When green meets red and red meets blue
I want to see all of you

Sunlight dances with the distance
In her squinty eyed shoes
And I’m chasing down horizon
In hopes of being danced with too

I’ve never known a love so true
I want to see all of you
When green meets red and red meets blue
I want to see all of you

Daylight sings all that morning air brings
And I’m lost
I’m lost inside you

And I’ve never known a love so true
And I want to see all of you, all of you, all of you
When green meets red and red meets blue
I want to see all of you, all of you, all of you

Other personal favorites: I’m Sorry Mary, Counting to 100, 5:19, The Day Forever Died, Somedays, Sweetness in Starlight, That for You, Lonely Tonight. :) Please make his albums available locally? Please? It shouldn’t be as hard as looking for coogi, right?

Two of his albums are available off Amazon. Argh, why must CDs be so expensive there? Pfft. Anyway, to those who can afford, get his album! You won’t regret it! :)

Lost in NashVegas (Rachel Hauck)

Rating: [rate 4.0]

Lost in Nash Vegas (Rachel Hauck)Last week, I stocked groceries in Freedom, Alabama. This week, I live in Nashville, Tennessee, about to take the stage at the famous Bluebird Cafe.

Sounds fantastic, doesn’t it? Only one problem, I ‘ve got stage fright.

But after years of being ruled by fear and hiding from my dream, I confronted my limited reality and left home. Forget the hometown hunk who wants to make me queen of his doublewide. Forget Momma’s doubt-inspiring tirade. I can make it in Music City…can’t I?

So I took a leap of faith, gathered my old guitar, my notebook full of songs, and packed up my ’69 Chevy pickup. Look out NashVegas!

With the help of some new friends, especially handsome Lee Rivers, my dream is about to find the light of day. But as I face my first night at the Bluebird Cafe, I realize…I might just do what comes naturally. Look for the nearest exit, and run!

Robin McAfee is an singer and songwriter…when she’s alone or when she’s in her Granddaddy’s porch. But bring her in front of a crowd, she has this really huge urge to run away like a mouse who is caught in the bright light, or a cat who’s afraid of humans.

But after some thinking and some realizations while in her hometown, she decides to make a Robin McAfee decision: try it out in Nashville as a new songwriter amidst all the songwriters around and see if she can make it.

But what if she doesn’t? What’s going to happen to “Freedom’s Song”? Will she stick it out or will she run back to her family and her best friend Arizona (no, not the same as Arizona real estate, as in a real person named after a state) and forget she ever wanted to become a songwriter?

Reasons to watch the Switchfoot concert on September 10

Don’t tell me you still don’t have a ticket for Switchfoot‘s concert in Manila on September 10 at the Cuneta Astrodome! If you are still thinking of buying a ticket, here are some reasons why you should watch this concert.

1. Because Jerome Fontamillas, their keyboardist, is a Filipino from Pasay City who moved to San Diego. Filipino pride, mehn!

2.Because they might sing something like this:

I don’t really like Beyonce or the song, but this one just rocks. Agree?

3. And finally, the biggest reason of all is this:

For every ticket you buy, you are helping the International Justice Mission to save exploited children in the Philippines. For those who don’t know, IJM is a group of lawyers and volunteers who help in stopping child trafficking, prostitution and get minors who are convicted of crime out of prison where they shouldn’t be in because of their age and into better places like juvenile centers where they can recover. By just buying a P250 ticket, it will go a long long way!

So what are you waiting for? Mosh pit and Floor seat tickets are sold out, but you can still get 1000, 800, 600, 400 and 250 tickets! The venue is pretty small, so don’t worry about not being able to see them perform, because you will still be able to. :) Reserve your tickets from me, or you may also contact other Street Team members in your area to get your tickets.

See you at the concert!

Let The Music Heal Your Soul

Okay, let’s back down memory lane a bit. I confessed my love for the Backstreet Boys a couple of months back, and here I am with another confession (which I kind of mentioned before as well): I am a fan of The Moffatts. Yeah, yeah, I admit that I cried when a friend told me they really died shortly after their If Life is So Short video came out, and yes, I still feel sad that Dave Moffatt (my favorite one) is gay…but the entire “I love The Moffatts” thing is for another post. Anyway, I got back to this particular band because a friend posted a video of them from when God knows when…and it made me search for old mp3s and videos of them which brought me to this video:

Well, that was a long segue. Memories, anyone? In case you don’t know (GASP!), this is a video of Let the Music Heal Your Soul by Bravo All Stars. I remember squealing with delight when I first saw this video since it has both Backstreet Boys and The Moffatts. Then there’s me buying a tape of this compilation and singing the song with the instrumental version backup for Music class back in freshmen high school year. Ahh, memories!

Despite its cheesiness and its teenybopperishness, this is a pretty heartwarming song. :P And you just have to love how Brian (B-Rok) belts out his lines, and how Aaron Carter looks so totoy and how there’s this shot of him looking at a frame of his older brother Nick. I can’t get over the fact that the guys in the video move so much, with all the arm waving and such. I can’t pinpoint who the other artists were though, except for Gil Ofarim, The Moffatts and Justin Timberlake (where are the rest of the N Sync?).

Who can help me identify who’s who in the video? And what do you think of the song? Come on, let your teenybopper selves out now. ;)

Search Words for Refine Me, Part 2

Okay, I thought my bandwidth already reached its limit, but apparently, I can still access my blog. This morning I already got a 509, but then I accidentally clicked on the bookmark to this site and I got here…and it loaded. So…was it a false alarm?

Anyway, I have new things to talk about, like my new (and unexpected) gadget Triskal, buying an expensive earphones, some money-making rackets, planning trips to Oz and whatnot, but because I want to make sure what happened to my bandwidth before doing something a bit heavy, I’ll post that by this weekend instead. For now, it’s time for yet another Search Words for Refine Me post. This is a follow up of the first part, which I had so much fun writing. :P I think this one is going to be a bit funnier than the last one. ;)

Right now I am getting a lot of referrals from searches for Pinoy Big Brother Season 2 and the housemates, but it’s because my old PBB blog is redirecting here. :P

Okay now for some reason I can’t find any words to end this post. Oh well. I’ll do it the old-fashioned way then.

The End.

:P

I pray that You would keep me mystified

Today I spent the day being creative. :P I’m not the most creative person around, and I know a lot more people who can make something really good out of spare scraps of papers and other random art materials and I’m not really one of them. My scrapbooking skills always end up looking the same, and whenever I try to add a lot of elements, it always ends looking messy, not artistic.

But much thanks to my dear friend Bea, I learned a lot more things on scrapbooking and being creative. :P Haha. Today, my high school friends came over to make a scrapbook for someone, and I suddenly became the head of the creative team. Haha, so I pretended to be “creative” and with a lot of paper, glue, cutting, and old magazines, we actually got a pretty nice thing in the end. :P I forgot to take pictures, but I’ll take them on Wednesday when we meet each other again. I think I might just have a career in layouting. :)

And speaking of new layouts…I should make one for this site soon.

I’m feeling mighty unhealthy; maybe it’s because I haven’t been doing physical activity for almost two weeks. :-s That’s what happens when you get stuck inside the house all day. I need physical activity. I wish I could go and enroll myself in the gym so that at least I have something to do everyday, but I feel like going to a gym is one big unnecessary luxury…but it beats doing nothing. Maybe I should seriously consider that, while I’m still unemployed and all. I need to start thinking healthy.

Anyway, I had a great time with my high school friends. It was nice talking to them again and it always reminds me that what we got here is for real. I’ve known those people for more than eight years already…our friendship is bound to last, right? I wonder what would happen when one of us gets married and then starts having kids. Haha. Too early to think about that, Tina. ;)
