Philippine Blog Awards 2008

Philippine Blog Awards 2008

And it’s back! :)

To quote (because they explained it way better than I can):

The Philippine Blog Awards aims to recognize notable Filipino-owned blogs in their respective niches. With topics ranging from the arts, culture, technology and politics, Filipinos have become more abreast because of the fast growing blogging industry here and abroad. The Philippine Blog Awards is a venue to showcase notable blogs with quality content that engages readers from around the globe.

Now on its second year, the Philippine Blog Awards continues to recognize Filipino blogging talent from around the world. This year, the awards extends its reach towards network blogs written by Filipinos, blogs written by mainstream media practitioners as well as local corporations that use blogs are effective communication tools.

The awards night is scheduled sometime in the second quarter of 2008, but volunteers and sponsors are already welcome. :) I’ve already volunteered, and based from experience, being an awards night volunteer is a fun thing — you get to see all the things going on behind the scenes, work with a lot of great people and everyone’s input is always welcome so as we could come up with a great awards night. :)

You may also help out by posting an entry on your blog about the awards night (just like this), or creating a PBA 2008 badge for use in other blogs (which will be credited to you, of course).

For news/updates about the Philippine Blog Awards, visit the official website or add the official blog to your RSS feed. :)

See you guys there!

What Happened When I Was Five?

In connection to my upcoming 21st birthday, I’m going to do a Rico Mossesgeld (haha, hi Rico!) and answer the same questions he answered in his blog. Except of course the twenty-five thing since I’m far from that age. ;)

So now…What happened when I was five?

I just finished kindergarten, and now moved on to Prep. I was a talkative kid, as always, and I found out that I was actually quite, well, smart. I skipped nursery, yes, but I remember being down because I didn’t get any award during recognition days during Kinder. But why was I there, anyway? I don’t know why.

Anyway, during Prep, I made some good friends in school — Patrese, Jessica and Michelle. I considered Patrese as my best friend but we had this weird friendship: we’d keep on having little “fights” and we won’t talk to each other, but then we’d become friends again. There was a time when we’d bring toys to school and she’d have the “better” ones, but I usually don’t mind. There were also times when we’d send “hate mail” to each other. How? By coloring really ugly colors (black, brown, gray, and other colors that are not our favorite or do not match) and give them to each other. :P

Prep was the year I discovered that I was smart, as I mentioned earlier. Modesty aside, I found myself following the lessons easily, sometimes even getting ahead of the teacher, especially in Language subject. I was afraid of making mistakes though, or admitting to them. Like one time, we were doing this art project with egg shells. We were supposed to make an egg shell mosaic with our name, and our teacher lent us different colors of oil pastel (Craypas). She told us not to break the Craypas since we would return it, but as luck would have it, I broke mine in two. I never returned it, even if our teacher kept on calling for it. I think my teacher knew it was with me, but never asked. ^^; Was that stealing? I didn’t mean to, I promise. I was just ashamed to return a broken pastel (even if others broke theirs).

I remember performing for this Christmas dance in Prep, as well as this flower dance during the school’s Foundation Day. I was a good student (still am, I think), and I do think my teacher liked me then. :D

Oh, I was also a sickly kid — always getting fevers, asthma attacks and whatnot. It’s a miracle I managed to stay on top of the class. Remembering this made me see how God has been faithful to me ever since I was a kid. :) Praise God for that.

Tomorrow, we talk about being ten. ;) I’ll try to post some pictures of me when I was five and ten and so on, but let’s see. :) 11 days to go!

2007 Philippine Blog Awards

I’m kind of late in blogging this…but better late than never!

Philippine Blog Awards 2007Early in my days of webdesign, when I was all so into cutesy pink kawaii stuff (Now who remembers that word? :P Kawaii!!!), I joined this site competition thing called The Site Fights (or was it something else? I think there was something like this called The Royal Rumble…wait, that’s wrestling… or The Site Rumble or whatever. Haha I might be wrong), where you join, your site gets evaluated, and once you’re in, there are different levels where you have to get into until you get to be TEH ULTIMATE SITE FIGHTS CHAMPION! Or…something like that. ;) To get into the different levels, people would have to vote for you and the winner with most votes will go to the next level while the rest will remain there. I remember getting into the second to last level, but I couldn’t move out from there because there was this site that looks so…um, kawaii, that everyone votes for it more. And it’s hosted on expages (I was hosted on gurlpages back then :P)…how can she beat me?! Arrogance aside, her site was actually quite…cute. Cuter…er, more kawaii than mine that is. Imagine lots of pink sparkly things, small iframe to hold her tiny text and shaking links…you know? Oh, and everyone still thinks the “Me, You, WWW” is still teh coolest thing for site navigation back then. ;)

When I realized that I might never move out of that place, I gave up and didn’t want to work on it anymore, until I moved to another host and forgot about it altogether.

But that’s not my point. The point here is…the 2007 Philippine Blog Awards is totally different from this. ;) I quote:

As Shari and Darwin said, this isn’t some contest you join and you’d get a blinkie to display on your site. No, no, this is bigger, better and more exciting, especially when you see the prizes! A trophy is better than a blinkie, yes? Of course.

And that 30GB iPod Video again. Lord, will this be my chance? Pleaaaase?

Nominations are open until February 28, so go and nomitate the blogs you think are worthy of winning the best in the these categories. :)

From the Blog Parteeh ’07 to the 2007 Philippine Blog Awards…2007 sure is shaping up to be a great year for the Pinoy Bloggers. :)
